Description
George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) composed an extensive body of instrumental music during the first half of the eighteenth century, drawing upon the dance forms and contrasting musical styles of the European Baroque. His music frequently employs the suite, a collection of short movements often based on traditional dances, including the minuet, passepied, and rigaudon. Suite, arranged for string orchestra by Walter Fischoff, brings together five movements from Handel's instrumental music: 1. Menuett; 2. Air; 3. Passepied; 4. Rigaudon; 5. Impertinence. Fischoff's arrangement was published in 1962, presenting Handel's characteristic melodic elegance, rhythmic vitality, and clear Baroque textures in a setting for string orchestra. The arrangement reflects the twentieth-century tradition of adapting Baroque music for modern string ensembles, making historical repertoire accessible to performers beyond specialist early-music groups. Suite's straightforward scoring and contrasting dance movements make it particularly suitable for student and community string orchestras, offering an approachable introduction to Handel's instrumental style. This arrangement includes both Viola and substitute Violin 3 parts. No separate Bass part was created in this arrangment, but enough Violoncello parts are included in the set for Bass players to use. String count included in the set: 8.8.3-5.5.5. Reprint edition.
