Description
At the JACK Quartet's April 2022 premiere in New York City of his 20-minute string quartet, George Lewis said that he composed the piece “against complacency.” Adding a subtitle (“Partial Truth”) that contradicts itself, he challenges his performers to examine their interpretations of the quartet -- and, perhaps, to look at themselves. Lewis numbers his string quartets with .5 because Signifying Riffs, for strings and percussion, counts as half a quartet.
