La Périchole: Paraphrase on the Operetta by Jacques Offenbac (1819-1880)h was composed in the mid-20th century by Rudolph Goehr (1906-1981), an Austrian-born British composer and conductor known for his work in theater and light orchestral repertoire. Drawing on themes from Offenbach's opéra-bouffe La Périchole (1868), itself set in 18th-century Peru, Goehr's paraphrase follows the long tradition of transforming popular operatic material into concert works.
