Description
This major work is based on folk tunes from Chapala, Jalisco and Guadalajara as heard by Dr. Reed during visits to these areas in the late 1940s. Previously only available for orchestra on rental, LA FIESTA MEXICANA was originally written for concert band and later rescored for orchestra by the composer.

Played this several years ago in a semi-professional band. Unfortunately, the conductor had an hour rehearsal before the concert. By the time we got to the last movement, the brass players were very tired. We did our best… great piece!

My high school symphonic band played the third movement (Carnival) in the early '80s. I thought my trombone part was challenging (and fun); but wow, there's a lot more ink on the page for the woodwinds. Hats off!
