Description

Gesang (I) was composed in 1988 at the suggestion of the flautist Eberhard Blum and commissioned by the Hessischer Rundfunk, the premiere took place on 31 March 1988 in Darmstadt.

The composition is in three parts, parts A and C are for the bass flute, part B for the concert flute.

The title indicates the basic gesture of the piece: calm, almost song-like playing, without gestures and externalised virtuosity, long tones, differentiated treatment of the vibrato.

The three-part form is conceived as an arch form; elements, gestures and motifs from the A section also appear in modified form in the two remaining sections of the composition.

Gesang (I) was produced in 1994 for MDR by Martin Fahlenbock/ensemble RECHERCHE.
