Description
Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums) in C-sharp minor, SC 65 was composed in 1890 by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) as an elegiac work for string quartet, written in response to the death of Amedeo, Duke of Savoy. The title refers to the chrysanthemum, a flower associated in Italy with mourning and remembrance, and the music reflects a somber, introspective character marked by flowing lyric lines and restrained emotional intensity. Although conceived as a chamber work, Puccini later reused its principal themes in his opera Manon Lescaut (1893), demonstrating its personal significance. This arrangement for string orchestra has been completed by Lucas Drew. A count of 8-8-5-5-5 strings are included in the set.
