Description
Composed in the 1760s for his longtime friend Joseph Franz Wiegl, then the principal cellist of Prince Nicolaus's Esterhazy Orchestra, this is a historic piece of Haydn's repertoire for cello. It demonstrates the ritornello form of the baroque concerto as well as the emerging structure of the sonata-allegro form. A staple repertoire piece of any accomplished cellist.
