Description
Concerto for Viola d'amore in D major, RV 392 was composed in the early 18th century (c. 1715-1720) by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) during his prolific years in Venice, likely in connection with his work at the Ospedale della Pietà. Written for the viola d'amore - an instrument prized for its warm, resonant tone - Vivaldi's writing highlights both the instrument's lyrical qualities and its capacity for intricate passagework, set within the familiar three-movement fast-slow-fast concerto structure. This work holds a special place still in the repertoire of this rare instrument, frequently performed by specialists in early music, preserving the unique voice of the viola d'amore within the Baroque concerto tradition. This transcription for solo viola and string orchestra, transposed to G, has been completed by Harold Newton. A count of 8-8-5-5-5 strings are included in the set.
