Description
The stadtpfeifers of 17th and 18th century Europe were paid musicians who played music from clocktowers for the townspeople at certain times of the day or on special occasions. Two of the three pieces in this suite were composed by Johann Pezel (1639-1694), the most prolific stadtpfeifer composer in history. Percy Hall has combined these three short pieces into one delightful work for string orchestra that provides an energetic opener, a lyrical second movement, and a spirited closing. On the contest lists of several states, this is an excellent concert or contest selection.
