Played this for my last middle school Christmas concert, and boy does it ache. High school band is nothing like middle school band, and listening to the music we used to play is amazing. Middle schools are smaller, so that means more student-teacher bonding and leaning in layered and complex ways. You just don't get that in high school, and it makes me sad. This was such a beautiful piece to get to indulge before leaving adolescence for early adulthood, and it will stay sacred to me.

Our school orchestra played this for the summer concert cause the Christmas show got cancelled three times due to COVID and huge snow. Played the timpani part, was super fun!!
