Description
This chart swings all the way and is very playable by a young band. Arranger Vince Gassi captures the essence of this well-known Strayhorn composition made famous by Ellington, and scored it exactly right---not too difficult but with fun-to-play parts. It includes brief written solos for 1st alto sax and 1st trumpet and easy ranges with plenty of dynamics to teach. A superb chart you will play for years to come! Loved playing this at prom this year. We had the whole 'Roaring 20's' theme and all

Played the marimba for this, which had the same music as the saxophone, and it was amazing and fun to move around the marimba to play the notes

Playing this at a festival and really enjoy playing it. Btw, I'm playing alto sax part 1

Playing this at some jazz festivals this year with the trumpet solo, changed the E natural to an E flat for fun too🤣

Playing drumset for this part and I love it. I love songs that just have a simple swing the whole way through because there is so much fill potential. For example, when the saxes have the 'Dut Dut Dah Dah Dut,' I play that back on the bell of the ride. Simple things like that are why I love jazz. You have sheet music, but that's just a suggestion. You play what's on the sheet music as an underlying beat, but then you make your own fills to make it your own.

Key is different from the original, but it still sounds great!

I remember when I played this song, I was utter garbage, but I like how the drums play stuff that is way too hard for beginners to play, like the improv

I'm piano, baby, nothing feels better than hitting those high riffs
