Borodin, a major Russian composer of the nineteenth century, is best known for his extremely popular Polovitsian Dances and his great opera Prince Igor. His Symphony No. 2, which he took seven years to complete, is among his most important orchestral works and is much studied as an example of Russian nationalist music of the Romantic period.
