Description
"Shady Grove" is an Appalachian folk song that bears some resemblance to the English ballad "Matty Groves." Although its verses have hundreds of variations, its origin is most likely as a courting song:
Cheeks as red as a blooming rose,
Eyes of the prettiest brown,
She's the darling of my heart,
The sweetest girl in town.
Cheeks as red as a blooming rose,
Eyes of the prettiest brown,
She's the darling of my heart,
The sweetest girl in town.
