The Serenade in C K648 "Ganz kleine Nachtmusik" for two violins and basso ("cello") is a previously unknown piece by Mozart that was discovered by researchers in Leipzig, Germany, and included in the 2024 edition of the Köchel catalogue. Thought to have been composed when he was in his teens, the piece consists of seven movements for string trio, lasting around 12 minutes. Referred to as "Very Little Night Music", this light and characterful string trio is a must for string players and Mozart enthusiasts to explore alongside the famous "Little Night Music" (Eine kleine Nachtmusik K525). This very first Urtext edition of the work includes the score, separate parts, a preface with historical placement, and critical commentary.
Die Serenade in C KV648 "Ganz kleine Nachtmusik" wurde 2024 von Forscher:innen der Internationalen Stiftung Mozarteum in Salzburg als ein originales Werk von Mozart bestätigt, was seine Aufnahme in die neue Ausgabe des Köchel-Verzeichnisses, dem maßgeblichen Verzeichnis der musikalischen Werke Mozarts, rechtfertigt. Das Manuskript des Jugendwerks ist in der Musikbibliothek der Städtischen Bibliotheken Leipzigs überliefert. In einem Brief vom 8. Februar 1800 beschrieb Mozarts Schwester Maria Anna das Werk als "ganz kleine Nachtmusik". Das siebensätzige Stück für zwei Violinen und Basso (Cello) hat eine Aufführungsdauer von etwa 12 Minuten. Dieses leichte und charaktervolle Streichtrio stellt eine wertvolle Ergänzung für Streicher und Mozart-Liebhaber:innen dar, die es neben der berühmten "Kleinen Nachtmusik" KV525 erkunden möchten.
