One moment…

Description
Don Ellis and Hank Levy. Both are legendary for big band charts in odd meters. Whiplash is a super-exciting chart in 7/4 composed by Levy and arranged by Erik Morales. Don't be intimidated by the meter---after a few minutes it feels quite natural and the students will totally eat it up. The melody is stated by 2nd trumpet and 1st alto with solo space for both with easy chord changes. Articulation is critical and the rhythm section may want to spend some quality time together. Lead trumpet range is to written D above the staff. This is a unique but very desirable chart to have in your library that you won't regret playing. (4:58) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

All the people saying it needs to be 1.25 speed have clearly not tried playing it at that speed with a jazz band lol

The bass part actually looks so fun, the groove of this arrangement is right on point

My middle school jazz band teacher gave us this arrangement as a joke but by the end of the year we could play it almost perfectly

I personally think it sounds better around the 1.25 speed mark, but it's such a good arrangement that it can sound good at written tempo and faster

I just recently played this in my jazz band for 8th grade, such an amazing arrangement!

Playing this in my band right now. It's…well….something…. (I like the song a lot, it's just giving us a LOT of trouble….)
