Having just returned from a trip to Italy with his father where he had been commissioned to write a serenata for the wedding of Archduke Ferdinand and Beatrice D'Este, his return home resulted in a year of composing. In addition to the symphonies, Mozart wrote three divertimenti, a largely minor work for most other composers, but which Mozart elevated to the complexity found in the fairly new symphonic form. The three divertimenti from 1772, K136 - K138, are often called his "Salzburg Symphonies." They may be performed as either a string orchestra (4-4-3-3-3 in set) or as a string quartet. Reprint edition. 11x14 oversized full score.
