Description
This one is sure to be popular for recital programs! The movement titles (familiar to every percussionist) are "This is Not a Rhythm Song," "This is Not a Violin Concerto," and "This is Not a Mexican Dance." Davies, however, has not written a spoof of any of the aforementioned works; rather, the titles are a tribute, albeit a somewhat ironic one, to the popularity of the pieces named. Leaving the titles aside, This Is Not a Sonata is highly worthwhile to perform, with interesting harmonic and rhythmic concepts and a variety of technical and musical challenges.
