Real reactions from the players, directors & students who love The Twelve Days After Christmas: SATB Choral Octavo.
my school's rendition of this was so unnecessarily chaotic.... the choir staged it so it looked like the choir was just improvising and the song wasn't actually supposed to be dark, and our choir director pretended to walk off the stage in frustration after the "drummer" line (they did have an actual drummer walk on stage) and one of the students took his place to conduct the end of the piece. it was beautiful
We sang this in the mid-1980s at my elementary school at the annual holiday concert for parents. Our music teacher changed the ending to "Furthermore, your gifts are for the four calling birds, three French hens, two turtledoves, and a partridge in a pear tree," which I thought was a nice touch musically and lyrically to bring it back to the beginning. Glad to see this version match that, as most end with "Furthermore, your gifts are for the birds."
My middle school choir sang this at a Christmas concert... I remember the audience (mostly our parents) laughing hysterically.
I did this song my freshman year in Beginning Choir for a Christmas Showcase. Everyone would laugh, especially the choir members. Trying to keep a straight face was next to impossible for this song. Ah... memories. Sweet, sweet memories.
My college performed this for 2022. We emphasized some of the words (like "my true love and I had a >fight<") and generally took our paces with the song, especially during the end part, to give some more weight to each verse.
My treble choir FINALLY did this song and it got SO many laughs from the audience! Definitely one of my favorites now!
My show choir did this song and oh boy, oh boy, was it fun. Me and my girlfriend kept looking at each other angrily ✌️😌
We did this last year for my choir concert and during it, the fire alarm went off and people started laughing.
i remember when one of the choirs at my school did this and they added things in and it was one of the most hilarious things and i can't wait to see what they come up with this year when i visit :)
We sang this spoof at our Christmas concert when I was a senior in 1974. I have thought of this off and on for years. Instead of giving the animals to the ASPCA, we changed it to the Roslyn FFA for our town.
