Description
Winner of the 2014 National Band Association Young Band Composition Contest, "The Haunted Carousel" was conceived as a piece for band utilizing the sound of a theremin, an electronic instrument often used in old science fiction and horror movies. The part is optional and all critical material is doubled with other instruments of the band. The theremin part is designed to be performed live on an amplified iPad with the GarageBand application. This is one Halloween piece your entire audience will be talking about long after the concert! (4:20) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

When our band played this we put in an extra scream at the end and turned the lights off and back on again to reveal that we all died, and it was really cool.

I'm obsessed with this sort of thing and I've got a friend that was in an honor band this past year. She told me that they were going to have a particular song that I would enjoy but didn't tell me anything besides that I would know it when they play it. Lo and behold, they play this song and got a standing ovation!

I've been learning clarinet for two years now and we're playing it in band soon. Our conductor played it for us and we were all like "Hell yeah, this is frickin' cool". When I saw this part I nearly shrieked; I'm a second and I go up to a high Bb?! (Firsts, rest in peace)

On the part where everyone is playing forte, what everyone did in my band is roll their eyes back and sway their head back and forth. We were also able to provide a white garden thing (I can't remember what it is called) and percussion would skip around it. It was so fun. Wish I could do it again 👇

I'm playing this in my community band. Such a wonderful song. But what was it that the little girl saw that made her fall off the carousel?

My middle school's 13-14 year olds (eighth grade) band played this for the spring concert and music day at school. I went on a mad search for it because it just sounds so cool and awesome! Thanks for posting this! The band sounded just like this! Btw: BARITONE FOR THE WIN

I like this song because as a bass clarinet it goes from beat keeping to melody so cool.

My band played this and the hardest part for us were the speaking parts.

We have a clown patrolling the auditorium during the song trying to get a scare out of any unsuspecting people.

Played this last year and with added bass from a tuba (me) made it sound amazing! We also added in a bass guitar.

We are playing this for band and my one director's friend knows how to play the theremin and is going to play with us. I'm a clarinet and I am saying goodbye to breathing lol. It's fun to play though and I love it.

I'm playing this song in my band! I play the flute, and so far it's very spooky. Not too much, but not too little! Thank you for sharing this! :)
