CHAT IM DOING THE EUPHONIUM SOLO IM SO SCARED BUT SO EXCITED edit: my concert was tonight and i sounded pretty good 😛
As a french hornist, I literally have two solos and could not be happier, we're playing this piece next week for a summer band concert. Just saying, I've never gotten a solo before :)
Nah cuz this made me cry hearing it again. I felt as if I was in the back of that band room all over again with percussion instruments all around me preparing for the start of the song, I wanna say I had 11 parts for this song and I LOVED IT
I'm a trombone and when I was in 8th grade, I played this for a concert. It was only me and another kid on trombone and only 2 euphoniums so that part wasn't strong at all. I thought it would be an amazing idea if I played the euphonium solo with them. ON A TROMBONE. I ended up being able to do it very well and I ended up memorizing it. My mouth lips were dead after that lol 😂
Absolute fire, this song is so much fun to play on flute especially at measure 45. RIP Smith, an absolute legend
In my opinion this is one of the best grade 2 band pieces. Conducting it this spring with my middle school band. Let's go! We are all excited!
trombonist here! this is exactly what we play when we get our train stolen by union workers! in all fairness, our glisses are written as (mf) but our director told us that the glisses should dominate the band room. if you (a fellow trombone) are having trouble with the second gliss at the end (from A to C then Bb), that A can be played in 6th position, then up to C in 3rd, then Bb in 5th! glad i could help you play the best song on the best instrument!
I love how this sounds like it's actually a chase. Love this piece. Also, when my band performed this, I got to play the brief train whistle part. I play clarinet in the PoynterGreen middle school band.
As a flute I remember playing this song for our final concert, that too my last ever year of band! Best song I've ever played!
My g9 band is playing this in a few weeks. It's for a Christmas concert. We have two long and soothing Christmas themes, and this. We decided to put the opening to a vote, and our band class is apparently a bunch of memers. We're opening by making our teacher announce the concert, and talk about how we apologize for playing soothing music somewhat late at night. Then, we're opening with this. Surely the parents watching will enjoy it :)
Played in my first year of HS at the end of year concert. Between this and Johnnie Vinson's Aladdin, this came out on top. Well done and RIP to the late Robert Smith
Measure 121 is the best, the low brass goes hard
I remember playing this at one of my high school band concerts... It was the only time our band got a standing ovation, this is a killer song!!!
I'm in 7th grade going to 8th grade next school year and I played mallets on this song and it was super fun, I got to do the bell solo!
I played this in 7th grade it was probably one of the best pieces we played
Wow man I'm doing this for junior clinic- I'm a trombonist and I got gold band 4th chair! Props to anyone else who will play this really fun piece! My concert is tomorrow, so wish me luck!
Played this a few years ago. It was a very fun piece. Not the most challenging but a very fun piece
Playing this in May for concert band. Love this piece, as a trombone player, the glissandos and follies are great.
This piece plays in my head when I do mile runs 😂 I did the oboe solos❤
I had the snare drum part in this song. By the end of the song, i had stage 4 paralysis in my arms 😅.
Wow it's sick this is finally on YT! Got to play this on first chair flute at all county
UHM IM PLAYING THIS FOR A CONCERT AND IM THE ONE WHO HAS TO DO THE FLUTE SOLO AT THE START IM SCARED 😣 I just got the music and it's terrifying to see but it's so fun to play RAHH I will post an edit to how we did!
My band director gave me, an Eb contra bass player, a tuba part, and was like, 'you can transpose from bass to treble, right?' And I was like, 'yeah! I can have the part written out in treble by tomorrow!' And he was like, 'Just do it in your head right now as we're playing! Instruments up!' And that's how I learned to transpose in real time, like my life depended on it. :)
When our band director had us play this for the spring concert, we got to have 'Story Time with @' where @ is his name.
I have the euphonium solo in a statewide KV honors band!
Gonna play this for my concert band in 2 days I'll tell you how it went 💔💔 Edit: IT ACTUALLY WENT REALLY WELL AND I PLAYED TROMBONE!!!! I was a little quiet around measure 112 tho but other than that I actually cooked
I'm excited for this piece! I am a trombone player, but I have both the trombone and euphonium parts to switch between. I got the solo in the euph part too! It seems super fun! Kinda sad I don't get to do the glisses though
The chime part is what made me choose percussion when I got into middle school and I GOT TO PLAY IT THIS YEAR!! Although I got to take a peek at the snare part and it seems super fun as well.
I played the tubular bells and the marimba and playing those tall metal bells that sound like church bells or the warning bell for trains, it sounds so sick. It's hard switching back and forth from bell hammers to marimba mallets and playing fast rhythms on both instruments. My band teacher told me to play as loud as I can since the band is too loud to hear me. He chose the correct guy, since I'm known for blasting instruments very loudly. When I play, the whole bell set shakes!
The freaking glissandos in this piece!! AAHHH! ❤
this was probably my favorite song/piece in band, and nothing ever came close to it. sadly all the other songs after this were voted by my band, who had a... different perspective on music, favoring the easy and really dull copy and paste songs.
Lowkey just did this song tonight. We sounded like this video
I personally think The Great Steamboat Race is better. This is still a good song though! I might suggest it to my band director next year for the spring concert. We did Steamboat this year, but this one would be fun.
At first in the 7th grade band I thought I would hate this because of how difficult it looked. But it sounds so good
This song is massive… (reference)
I came to find this 20+ years later because this is the song that made me fall in love with being in the band. My daughter just experienced the song that made her fall in love with being in orchestra and I HAD TO share this with her
