Description
Symphony No. 7 in E Major, WAB 107 was composed between 1881 and 1883 by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) and marked the decisive breakthrough of his symphonic career after years of criticism and neglect in Vienna. Written during a period of deep admiration for Richard Wagner, the symphony famously includes an Adagio conceived partly as an elegy anticipating Wagner's death, featuring the distinctive use of Wagner tubas that lend the movement a solemn, glowing sonority. The work was premiered on December 30, 1884, in Leipzig under Arthur Nikisch, achieving an overwhelming success that finally secured Bruckner's international reputation. Symphony No. 7 has remained one of Bruckner's most frequently performed symphonies, firmly established today as a cornerstone of the late-Romantic orchestral repertoire and a towering example of symphonic monumentality in the Austro-German tradition. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4+4(2WagTen-Tuba; 2WagBs-Tuba).3.3.1: Timp.Perc(2): Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). This reprint edition was revised by Bruckner protégés Josef Schalk and Ferdinand Löwe and conductor Arthur Nikisch in 1885. These Bruckner champions created an early performance edition of the symphony.
