Suite Miniature, Op. 145 (10 Easy Pieces) was composed by Alexander Gretchaninov (1864-1956) during the composer's later years in exile, after he had left Russia and settled in the West following the upheavals of the Revolution. Written for clarinet and piano, the set offers a sequence of short character pieces designed for pedagogical and recital use rather than virtuosic display. Today Suite Miniature remains a useful and attractive contribution to the clarinet teaching repertoire, valued for its place among the lesser-known late works of a composer who bridged the Russian Romantic school and the émigré musical world of the 20th century.
