Description
String Quartet No. 7 in A Minor, Op. 16/B. 45 was composed in 1874 by Antonín Dvorák (1841-1904) during a decisive early period when he was beginning to emerge from relative obscurity and develop the personal voice that would soon bring him international recognition. Written shortly after he received an Austrian State Stipendium -- supported by Johannes Brahms and critic Eduard Hanslick -- the work was premiered in 1878 in Prague, as Dvorák's chamber music began to gain wider attention among Czech musical circles. Although overshadowed by his later quartets such as the "American" and Op. 96, String Quartet No. 7 remains an important part of his early chamber output. This reprint of the critical edition by Antonín Pokorný and Karel Šolc include copious editor's notes and annotation details in the score.
