Description
French composer Jules Massenet (1842-1912), best known for his operas Manon, Werther, and Thaïs, was also a prolific composer of songs for voice and piano. His mélodies, or French art songs, reflect his gift for lyrical melody, expressive harmony, and sensitive treatment of poetry. Songs, Volume VII brings together twenty songs based on poetry and texts by French writers, including Victor Hugo, Édouard Noël, Camille Bruno and Gaston Buchillot, among others. The collection offers a variety of musical styles and expressive moods, highlighting Massenet's ability to capture the character and emotional content of the French language. Presented here for medium/low voice and piano, these intermediate-level selections are suitable for vocal study, French diction development, and recital performance. The collection provides an introduction to Massenet's contributions to the French art song repertoire. Reprint edition.
