Description
Sonatina in G major, H. 262 was composed in 1937 by Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) during a period of increasing international recognition, shortly before his emigration from Europe in the face of rising political tensions. Written as part of his output intended for students and amateur musicians, the work is scored to be playable entirely in first position. The Sonatina is especially accessible to young string players while still remaining musically satisfying, making it both pedagogically valuable and artistically rewarding. The Sonatina in G major remains a widely used teaching work, offering approachable technical demands, lively rhythms, and its introduction to Martinu's distinctive language within a format suitable for developing musicians. Reprint of the edition by Viktor Nopp.
