Description
Serenade in E major, Op. 25 was composed in 1890 by Arthur Foote (1853-1937), a leading member of the "Boston Six" and one of the first significant American composers trained entirely in the United States. Written for string orchestra, the work reflects Foote's deep grounding in German Romantic tradition - particularly the influence of Brahms - while also contributing to the emerging identity of American concert music in the late 19th century. The work was first performed in Boston musical circles during a period when American composers were striving to establish a native symphonic and chamber tradition. Today Serenade in E major, Op. 25 remains one of Foote's most frequently performed works. Movements: 1. Praeludium; 2. Air; 3. Intermezzo; 4. Romanze; 5. Gavotte. A count of 8.8.5.5.5 strings are included in the set. Reprint edition.
