Description
Salut d'Amor (Love's Greeting; Liebesgruß), Op. 12 was composed in 1888 by Edward Elgar (1857-1934) as an engagement gift for his future wife, Caroline Alice Roberts. Originally written for violin and piano and titled LIEBESGRUß, the piece was conceived as a private token of affection; however, it was soon brought to wider recognition. First performed publicly in 1889, the work quickly gained popularity, aided by arrangements for various instrumental combinations that expanded its reach beyond the original scoring. Written just before Elgar's rise to international prominence with the Enigma Variations, Salut d'Amor offers a glimpse into his early style. Today it remains one of Elgar's most beloved short works, frequently performed in recital, wedding, and concert settings. Instrumentation: 1.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). Reprint edition.
