Bars 56 to 61 are killer for saxes. The next time a high school jazz band plays that correctly will be the first time.
Me on the first page: this doesn't look that hard actually. Page turn: so you have chosen... death.
As a bass trombone player, I was heavily satisfied with the last section and much so on the very last note. Ohh, it's amazing.
I've finally learned how to play the glissando 😭 it took me 3 months
I remember seeing this in concert, clarinet solo was killer... incredible that this is charted by Alfred
I absolutely love 'Rhapsody in Blue', one of my all-time favorite songs, and a standout in Gershwin's catalogue. Gordon does a great job arranging this, but my God, the key changes! I don't know how many key changes there were in this arrangement. I play piano, and this is so far beyond anything that I could think or do. But I do love listening to it! WOW.
Had to play the clarinet part on soprano sax, then swap to my alto… this song was insane to play… felt like musical pit band all over again
Me and the other clarinets: ~*sweats nervously*~
Come on, this is really easy to play... as an audio file. Nope, not possible to play on an instrument unless many days or months of practice. (Or you could be a Jazz Legend and be able to sight-read the whole thing)
My band director gave us this music during the summer and we've been working on it since for our spring concert. It's not that we don't know the notes, it's just with all the tempo changes and key changes and stuff that makes it so hard.
I'm gonna be real, this is one of Goodwin's easier charts. Sure, very dependent on the soloist, but otherwise not that hard. My band plays Goodwin charts all the time.
