Description
Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) composed Rêverie, Op. 24, in 1898, creating his first work for orchestra alone. Written during a period when he was transitioning from the influence of Chopin and the Russian Romantic tradition toward a more individual musical language, the piece is a brief tone poem that lives up to its title. Premiered on December 5, 1898 in Saint Petersburg, the composition was warmly received and helped establish Scriabin's reputation beyond the realm of piano music. Though overshadowed by his later symphonies and orchestral scores such as The Poem of Ecstasy and Prometheus, Rêverie remains a charming work of the early twentieth-century. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). Reprint edition.
