Description
Chester Biscardi's Resisting Stillness (1996) for two guitars reflects the lyrical and impressionistic style that characterizes much of his music. With fluid rhythms and a focus on delicate timbral interplay, the work treats the guitars as a single resonant instrument, weaving shimmering harmonics and expressive melodic lines into an atmosphere of reflection and intimacy. Musical gestures evoke themes of memory, time, and the cyclical nature of existence, while the title suggests both a mode of listening and the composer's personal creative struggle during its composition - a "pulling up from silence." The work was commissioned by the Cygnus Ensemble and the International Guitar Festival of Morelia for guitarists William Anderson and Oren Fader of the Anderson/Fader Duo.
