Description
PRINTEMPS: SUITE SYMPHONIQUE is a two-part orchestral suite by Claude Debussy (1862-1918), produced during his residency at the Villa Medici after having won the 1884 Prix de Rome. Sent back to his mentors in Paris, the work puzzled them for its exploration of color at what they perceived to be a loss of formal structure. The original manscript, which included a wordless chorus, was eventually lost. In 1912, Henri Büsser created an orchestration from the sole surviving source, a reduction for chorus and piano duet. Rhené-Baton conducted its premiere at the Société nationale de musique in Paris on April 18, 1913. Instrumentation: 2(2nd d. Picc). 2(2nd d. EH).2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(2): Hp.Pno4hd: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
