Bruckner's Gradual (from the Latin gradus for step, referring to the steps of the altar where such a piece was intended to be sung during Mass) 'Locus Iste' was written to be sung at the annual church dedication festival, 'Locus iste a Deo factus est' - this place was made by God. It is both simple and direct and very beautiful, an attractive piece within the range of choirs of all abilities.
