My school's senior jazz band is playing this. The intro and outro is just so lovely, especially hearing the tenor sax play in person. :)
I'm tenor 1 in my band and at regions we had to sight read this.
Although this is not very close to the original Mingus tune, I actually find it to be much better melodically and since it is less of a tenor song, it has a new element of emotion not as felt in original.
I'm playing drums for this and my director wants it to be bebop, so the song is really fast and doesn't sound like it at all. But either way it's pretty cool.
Playing alto sax for this and I had a stroke when I actually looked up what note the very high one is... it's a D, literally two octaves above normal.
