In 1924 Ernest Block composed FROM JEWISH LIFE (B. 54/ IEB 6), a set of three short pieces for cellist Hans Kindler. The popular first song, PRAYER, was written in the style of a hymn of petition in a traditional Ashkenazi synagogue that starts with a four-note motive in the minor mode. Reprint edition.
