Description
Handel's Dettingen Te Deum Double Bass part.
At the Battle of Dettingen am Main in 1743, the Austro-British army was victorious over the French troops. Handel composed this Te Deum to celebrate this victory. Of Handel's five Te Deum compositions, the Dettingen Te Deum is the best known alongside the Utrecht Te Deum. According to tradition, this hymn of praise goes back to St Augustine and Ambrose of Milan (4th century), who were seized by the Holy Spirit. As in his other Te Deum compositions, Handel also set the Ambrosian hymn of praise to music here.
