Description
Concerto Grande da Chiesa "Coronation" was composed in 1712 by Francesco Maria Veracini (1690-1768), the celebrated Italian violin virtuoso whose flamboyant style and cosmopolitan career took him to courts across Europe, including Dresden and London. Written in the solemn da chiesa (church concerto) style, the work reflects the grandeur and ceremonial brilliance associated with courtly occasions, having been commissioned for the 1712 coronation of Charles VI in Frankfurt, and that event likely featured Veracini as soloist. Today Concerto Grande da Chiesa "Coronation" occupies a respected place in the Baroque violin repertoire, performed by period-instrument ensembles and modern orchestras alike, and it showcases the transition from Corellian concerto traditions toward the more individualistic style of the high Baroque. Instrumentation: 0.2.0.0: 0.2.0.0: Timp: Hpchd(or Org): Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set): Solo Violin in set. Reprint of the edition and elaboration by Adelmo Damerini, who additionally had the help of violinist Gioacchino Maglioni who revised the Organ/Harpsichord part and the solo Violin part.
