Description
Partitas Nos. 1-6, BWV 825-830 were composed between 1726 and 1730 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and published individually before being gathered together in 1731 as the first volume of his Clavier-vúbung, the only keyboard works Bach himself oversaw in publication as a collected set. These six suites represent the culmination of the Baroque keyboard partita tradition, each expanding the customary sequence of dance movements. Historically, the publication of the Partitas marked an important moment in Bach's career, demonstrating both his artistic ambition and his desire to establish himself as a leading composer for keyboard instruments throughout the German-speaking world. The Partitas stand among the supreme achievements of the keyboard repertoire, central to the literature for harpsichord and piano alike. Reprint edition of the edition by Egon Petri and Ferruccio Busoni. Available from the publisher in two volumes: Partitas 1-3, BWV 825-827 (M159291) and Partitas 4-6, BWV 828-830 (M159391).
