I remember first playing this my sophomore year of high school. And then playing it at my last concert of high school my senior year. This will always be one of my favorite band pieces just because of my nostalgia
I'm a freshman playing this for UIL and let me tell you I love it (I'm a flute)
Fun fact: Sheldon was the director at our school for 12 years. He started our current director's senior year and quit when he started making bank from writing. He came back this year for one day to work on this with us 😄
Played this at allstate as a flutist/bassoonist and the bass and contrabass clarinets were always next to me and they were MONSTERS so loud smh
It's been like 7 years since I played this song, but I've been whistling it almost every day for the past month. It's so catchy
I'm so serious this is the most fun I've ever had with a picc part... movement 1 is absolute heat ‼️
I love when the oboe will be following the flute and clarinet and then there will be a 16th note run, so they will just give the oboe the melody cause it's easier GIVE ME THE HARD PART YOU WON'T. NO BALLS
The fact that my band, from a town of 5,000 people, beat 5 bands from the states and got gold with this song is amazing
I believe I played this my junior year of high school as one of two tuba players at the time, and the dark march near the end is absolutely S-tier, but played down an octave gives it a little bit of that extra turbo, that pizzazz, that special sauce.
Played this at ILMEA District this year. Reminds me a lot of my favorite piece, Lincolnshire Posy. A very fun tenor sax part
Learned this in 3 rehearsals for an honor band at VT!
As a baritone player, the second movement is the scariest for me.
I played this last year as a 7th grader with the 8th graders. We recorded it along with Hands Across the Sea and The Seal Lullaby and we got into the National band festival. I'm so excited.
High woodwinds in their second year of playing looking at the opener like 😮
