Soulful Singing: Singing to Express, Not to Blend

April 30, 2024

Can we achieve our desired sound differently or better still, wholly embrace the sounds present in the room? Dr. Tiffany Renée Jackson offers an alternative perspective rooted in Africanness, individuality within collectivity.

As caretakers of the human voice, Dr. Jackson believes that we are tasked with creating a safe space for fulfilling music-making, to nurture sounds and timbres, and to grow the individual. Using the familiar “drop the jaw” terminology to achieve blend can negate individuality, projection, communication, and flexibility.

Attend this session to discover how embracing individuality can enhance your ensemble.
