Suzanne Dawson
Suzanne Dawson has been an active pianist, piano teacher, composer, and songwriter since 1978. She studied piano with Jackie McGehee at the University of Albuquerque and with Anna Hush and Dr. Ruth Meyer at Eastern New Mexico University, where she earned a B.M. with honors in piano pedagogy and an M.M. in piano performance.
Her musical studies have included jazz with Stu MacAskie, songwriting with professional songwriter Rick Beresford, and composition with Michael Mauldin. She currently studies composition with Dennis Alexander, whose mentorship and friendship continue to inspire her work.
Suzanne has written numerous songs, piano solos, and instrumental compositions. In 2001, she was the commissioned composer for the New Mexico Music Teachers Association, writing Winged Perspectives, a four-movement piano trio depicting various birds.
She was an active member of the New Mexico Women Composers Guild until the organization dissolved in the early 2000s and also served five years as the New Mexico regional coordinator for the Nashville Songwriters Association. Suzanne currently serves as president of the Encore Chapter of the New Mexico Federation of Music Clubs and maintains a thriving piano studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
