Sherry Blevins

Sherry Blevins is a sought-after artist and award-winning composer, lyricist, and music educator. Since 2018, she has had more than 27 works published by Alfred Music, Hinshaw, Fred Bock, Jocelyn Hagen Music, Colla Voce, and BriLee Music and has conducted and composed for singers and choirs around the globe, including Opera Lucca’s Composer's Institute in Lucca, Italy, West Vancouver Schools’ Honour Choirs, Oklahoma All-State Mixed Chorus, renowned soprano, Rebecca Cook-Carter, West Virginia ACDA Mixed Honor Choir, Tennessee All-State Treble choir, The Chattanooga Boys Choir, the Piedmont Invitational Choral Festival, South Carolina Music Educators National Conference, The Cincinnati Boychoir, Santa Monica College, Virginia Commonwealth University, Paw Creek Presbyterian, Watts Street Baptist, Durham Community Chorale, and many others. She is thrilled to have been selected as a composer-in-residence for National Concerts and MidAmerica Productions to premiere works at Carnegie Hall.

Sherry’s latest passion is collaborating with choirs on composing projects and to date, has many pieces that have been published as a result of these projects. In the spring of 2023, she was commissioned to co-compose with choirs in seven schools resulting in seven pieces representative of middle and high schools across Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina. She also frequently serves as a clinician, conductor, adjudicator for competitions and festivals, and holds workshops on conducting techniques, composing with choirs, and the motivation of singers. For 13 years, Sherry served as a university supervisor of student teachers for Appalachian State University where she was twice the recipient of the college’s teaching award given for her work with future music educators. She was also a long-standing music teacher for grades kindergarten through grade 8 with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and served as director of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, where she led the adult, youth, and children’s choirs. She is also the co-creator of a poster series designed to prepare students for music performance adjudication that is available at Dynamic Music Education Products.

Sherry has a bachelor’s degree in music education with a principal in voice from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master’s degree in music education with a concentration in choral conducting from Appalachian State University. She lives in Huntersville, North Carolina with her wife and beloved pets. Her hope is that whether through composing or teaching, that the music she shares will bring hope, life, and light to others.
