Richard L. Saucedo
Richard L. Saucedo retired in 2013 as the Director of Bands and Chairman of the Performing Arts Department at Carmel High School in Indiana after a 31-year tenure. ​ Under his leadership, Carmel bands earned numerous state, regional, and national honors in concert, jazz, and marching band categories. ​Highlights include Carmel’s Wind Symphony I performing at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival three times and being named Indiana State Champion Concert Band, most recently in 2013. ​ The Carmel Marching Greyhounds consistently placed in the top ten at the Bands of America Grand National Championship for 17 years, winning national titles in 2005 and 2012. In 2005, Carmel achieved the rare feat of winning a BOA National Championship while performing at the Midwest Clinic in the same year. Saucedo was honored as Indiana’s “Bandmaster of the Year” in 1998-99 and “Outstanding Music Educator” in 2010. ​ He was inducted into the Music for All Hall of Fame in 2015 and the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame in 2022, and is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association.Â
Saucedo is also a freelance arranger and composer, creating works for marching bands, choral groups, concert bands, and orchestras. ​He serves as the music ensemble coordinator for the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps and was previously the Brass Arranger/Composer for the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, contributing to five DCI world championships. Additionally, he is a Senior Educational Consultant for Music for All and Bands of America, a Conn-Selmer Division of Education member, and Chief Judge Team Leader for Bands of America competitions. ​ He is married to Sarah, an interior design blogger, and has two children:Carmen, an elementary school teacher, and Ethan, a senior percussionist pursuing an Architecture Degree at Ball State University.
