Paul Caliendo

Paul J. Caliendo is a New Jersey native, who began his professional musical career helping to pay his way through college by playing in local bands in and around the Jersey shore. Upon graduating from Monmouth College (now University) with a BA in Psychology, he continued to play professionally and formed the band “Waterfront” which went on to tour throughout the eastern and central United States, performing on and in clubs, concerts, TV, and recordings. After leaving the band, Paul returned to Monmouth where he received his Music Ed degree and his MAT.

Paul was hired by Point Pleasant Borough Schools as a band director, beginning his career in 6th grade band before moving to the high school for 16 years. At the high school, his concert and Jazz bands consistently achieved superior ratings at festivals in both performance as well as sight-reading, and his competition bands won numerous local competitions, as well as 5 USSBA Group Championships. Also, his marching band was chosen to represent the World Series Champion New York Yankees and marched up the “canyon of heroes” in NYC Ticker Tape Parades for 3 consecutive years. Paul finished his 32-year career as the 5th grade band director where, as he describes it, “I was surrounded every day by lots of enthusiastic little people who still thought I knew what I was talking about.”

Paul resides in Point Pleasant and, when he is not acting on stage, he continues to play in municipal bands, as well as performing as a pit musician in local theaters. He lives with his wife, Rosemary, who is an elementary school teacher. His daughter, Kate, is a French horn player, currently performing with the Jacksonville Symphony, and his son, John, is a NYC based actor.
