Nathan Jacklin

Nathan Jacklin enjoys a varied and versatile career as a cellist, teacher, conductor, and composer. Having recently moved to Switzerland, he is now the Music Director for the Musikgesellshaft Niederhasli and is the principal cellist in the Orchestergesellschaft Zürich. As an orchestral and band composer, his music has been performed by ensembles in both Switzerland and Canada.

As a conductor, Mr. Jacklin was most recently the Music Director of both the Civic Orchestra of Victoria and the Cowichan Consort Orchestra, as well as Music Director for the Juan de Fuca Community Orchestra. He has had regular conducting engagements throughout British Columbia, including leading a tour of world premiere performances of works written by modern Canadian composers. Also an active freelance cellist, Mr. Jacklin regularly performed with the Victoria Symphony and the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra. He is a founding member of the Victoria Cello Quartet and Sequoia Strings, chamber music ensembles that presented eclectic concerts of jazz, folk, and classical music. In recent years, he has been fortunate to record with many of Victoria’s local artists, including the band West My Friend and Juno-nominated artist Chelsea Amber. He is continuing his work as a cellist, performing regularly with Camerata Castello and other chamber orchestras in Zürich.

A dedicated teacher, he was the Director of Strings and Orchestra at Oak Bay Secondary School for six years and is proud to have been a member of a wonderful team of music educators. He continues to be involved in promoting music education through his work as a clinician and adjudicator.
