Michael Souders
Michael Souders is an elementary school music teacher at Colonial Heights Public Schools in Virginia, and a top-selling choral composer for Alfred Music. Author of the song “Thank You, Soldiers,” Michael is known throughout the world for his brand of “Positive American Music”–his YouTube channel (msouders37) boasts over 4.5 million views with over 3,600 subscribers.
Originally from Chambersburg, PA, Michael performed in various musical groups as well as professional theater throughout his high school years. In 1989, Mr. Souders entered James Madison University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and Worship. He performed in many top ensembles at JMU, served as pianist for the JMU Jazz Ensemble and several small jazz combos, and was featured as a trumpet soloist with the JMU Marching Royal Dukes. During this time, Michael also developed his piano and songwriting skills, studying advertising, arranging, and recording with renowned composer Robert W. Smith. Since becoming a teacher in 2005, Michael often writes music for his students as needed throughout the school year. For this reason, teachers are sure to find his songs relevant and appropriate.
