Description

Written between 1886 and 1888, Richard Strauss' (1864-1949) MACBETH, Op. 23 was the then young composer's first tone poem, which he described as "a completely new path" in his composition. It premiered in Weimar with the Court Orchestra on October 13, 1890, Strauss himself conducting. Instrumentation: 3(3dPicc).2+EH.2+BCl.2+CBsn: 4.3+BsTpt.3.1: Timp.Perc(4): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
