The suggested instrumentation and a customizable Teacher Map will help you plan out how to best assign parts to suit your ensemble's needs. The 3-part instrumentation will support balanced instrumentation of the lower voices. It also comes with supplemental parts for maximum flexibility. With the purchase of this piece, permission is granted to photocopy the parts as needed for your ensemble. A percussion accompaniment track is also available as a free download. String parts have been carefully edited with extra fingerings and appropriate bowings to support students in mixed ensembles playing in less familiar keys.

The Dragon Dance is a popular event in traditional Chinese culture, especially during Chinese New Year celebrations. Originating during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-200 A.D), the dance is carried out by a team of performers that carry the dragon on poles, fluidly mimicking its supposed movements. Drums, cymbals, and gongs usually provide the musical accompaniment to this beautiful and colorful performance.

It's my 3rd year of playing French horn and last year I had so much fun playing this with such a percussion-heavy band.

I'm playing this for the first time ever. I'm in beginning band but the band director is moving me to bass drum when I play snare for a festival, so I'm stoked to play this. So ty!

I played this in 5th grade, it was our first song. He gave it to us first because we learned so fast, and I loved it. Now I'm in 6th and I'm doing Stormchasing and Blackpearl!

Me, who played this for the second time for 7th grade because corona: 😊👌 That's me. I played the tom toms both times.

I was a bass clarinet. I didn't even want to play the majority of the song. I was waiting for measure 32 (basically where the low instruments play) so I could play my solo.

@OneWingedPhoenix YouTube

Omg I remember playing the gong on this. I HIT IT SO HARD LOL

J
@jennyherce8543 YouTube

Growing up, although these songs were annoying to play because of the errors along the way, but in the end the music is really good. I am a trumpet player and 2 of my friends are and we joked around how this sounds like boss music.

@ajburk21 YouTube

The thing I love about this song coming from a piano/mallet player is that you can really hear them because basically the entire time they play they have either the melody or just need to be really loud.

R
@RamenGVRP YouTube

As a clarinetist, I enjoyed this song a lot, mostly because we get a solo from measure 23.

T
@TheRandomWolf YouTube

Low brass sounds epic. I remember playing this 4 years ago when I played euphonium and not tuba.

L
@Lando9673 YouTube

We are about to start this song and I'm so excited. The clarinet solo will be awesome. Go clarinets.

I am playing this song in my school's band, and I am a sax in it. It is so fun to play!

This was literally the first sheet of music I was ever handed in 7th grade band along with Alpha Squadron.

I was a 6th percussionist when our band played this. I absolutely LOVED this piece. Our clarinets didn't do as good as heard in the video but they still did good. Props to the trumpets too.

Q

My daughter played this in her FIRST concert as a clarinet.

@quinnelliott9325 YouTube

Playing this at my concert this year in 6th. Going to be great, besides the clarinets—they have a mind of their own.

S
@Sam-iz8ly YouTube

I remember playing this Level 1/2 music in 6th grade. Now I'm in 8th grade playing Level 4 music. This brings back so many memories :)

I played this in my first band concert back in February and it was my favorite song!

C
@chelseaafaith YouTube

I had to play this when I was in grade 6, 2 years ago. I was a flute player lmao. Anyone else play the flute here??

N
@nofivefivesevenseven YouTube

I love this song because of me getting my own percussion solo (usually there's like 5 other percussionists but this year they all go into school on different days).
