The song starts so sad and melancholy, then the flutes come in with the eighth and sixteenth notes making it all happy and cheerful
I remember playing this my eighth grade year... I had the crash cymbals (y'know, that one eighth-note at the beginning of the Allegro section lol). Still, this was the first piece I ever played in Symphonic Band, and I'll never forget it.
Ten years since I first played this song and it is still the first song I play to warm up my clarinet. I just love it
The trumpets playing a B natural while clarinets play something else shows the ABSOLUTE beauty in harmonics and chorus
I'm playing this for my MPA, and I'm so excited for it. I have first clarinet part and I'm absolutely loving it!!
The first part gives sad goodbye vibes. The second part gives "we made it to TAHITI!" vibes
Won a perfect score at band festival with this piece in our repertoire 🎉
Trombone 1 player here. This song is SO in my head, but the melodies are absolutely catchy. I like the B section of the fast part because it doesn't rely on too much rhythm but is still highly danceable
I love this song! It is pretty easy, though (sixth grade bassoon, btw). I just played it for my District Honor Band concert, and I loved it!
My grandson's band song. Came in first place with this version in the whole county. ❤🎶👏🏻👏🏻
Freshman year before quarantine I was in band and played the bari sax. This was one of the songs that we played and me and my friend that played the timpani behind me liked to call it the cucumber song. This was one of my favorite songs to play and listening to it again after years of not hearing it brings up such happy memories and feelings.
Our new band director called the fast part "Meemaw at the Hoedown" and honestly he's right
