Based on a tragic poem by Carlos Fernández Shaw called El Chavalillo (The Little Lass), it tells the story of a young gypsy girl who is passionately in love with a well-to-do young man. When she learns that he must marry a woman in his social class, she crashes the wedding, the young man denies he knows her, then she falls dead at his feet with a broken heart as a sign of contempt for her former lover. Despite winning the price, no premiere materialized until the Casino Municipal in Nice staged the work on April 1, 1913. After some suggestions from Claude Debussy, de Falla revised the work into the standard version. While the opera is staged irregularly, some of its sections are popular for concert performance. In the opera, it takes place at the betrothal celebration of the young man and the woman he must marry. Based on a tragic poem by Carlos Fernández Shaw called "El Chavalillo (The Little Lass)," it tells the story of a young gypsy girl who is passionately in love with a well-to-do young man. When she learns that he must marry a woman in his social class, she crashes the wedding, the young man denies he knows her, then she falls dead at his feet with a broken heart as a sign of contempt for her former lover. Despite winning the prize, no premiere materialized until the Casino Municipal in Nice staged the work on April 1, 1913. After some suggestions from Claude Debussy, de Falla revised the work into the standard version. While the opera is staged irregularly, some of its sections are popular for concert performance. Among those is Danza Española (Spanish Dance), originally published as Interlude and Dance. In the opera, it takes place at the betrothal celebration of the young man and the woman he must marry. In the dance, the infectious theme moves about the orchestra as a contrast to the melancholy (for the gypsy girl) of the story surrounding this party. This version is arranged by Fritz Kreisler for violin and piano. Reprint Edition. In the ballet, which uses a libretto by María de la O Lejárraga García, a young Andalusian gypsy girl is haunted by the ghost of her dead husband. To be rid of the ghost, all of the gypsies form a circle around their campfire at midnight, while the girl performs the Ritual Dance of Fire. When the ghost appears, she dances with him until he is drawn into the fire, vanishing forever. With its fast, repetitive trills and high energy, the section titled Ritual Dance of Fire is the most popular music from the ballet. This version is transcribed for four violoncellos by Emilio Colón.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0697/6104/0520/files/36-M366791_large_cedbbb67-3872-4892-a678-7006f356f801.jpg?v=1779254625
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0697/6104/0520/files/36-M986090_large_b7b989d3-f53b-4870-a3df-db3aede47362.jpg?v=1779256316
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0697/6104/0520/files/36-M989890_large_6e331469-59df-47a8-b2c2-bd5be4d6ce6e.jpg?v=1779256318
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0697/6104/0520/files/36-M989801_large_db3f81fd-46c5-4b2b-bcd4-401542e786dd.jpg?v=1779256318
fantasia-espanola-00-pk-0008497
Fantasía Española: String Orchestra Conductor Score & Parts
A spell-binding exploration of the music of Spain, Fantasía Española features four exciting yet contrasting sections and challenging parts for all players. Three of Spain's most famous composers are represented in this medley arranged by Bob Phillips. The piece begins with an exciting, driving excerpt from "Asturias (Leyenda)", by Isaac Albéniz, which, though written for piano, is most often heard on guitar. The setting of this section allows the violins and violas a display of virtuosity with its unrelenting rhythmic drive. Beautiful, lyric, and emotional, "Tango in D," also by Albéniz, will showcase the musicianship of the entire orchestra. Originally written for piano, the strings will shine in this second section of the arrangement. The third section is the slow and lyric, "Adelita." Drawn from the deep treasure of Spanish guitar music and written by the father of classical guitar, Francisco Tárrega, this piece is simply beautiful. The medley concludes with "Danza Ritual del Fuego" from the ballet El Amor Brujo. Written by Manuel de Falla for full orchestra, the string setting drives to a fabulous and dramatic finish.(5:45)
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0697/6104/0520/files/00-49472_large_0605674c-c913-40b8-aa16-b0f73274b262.jpg?v=1779252514
ritual-fire-dance-from-el-amor-brujo-00-pk-0004629
Ritual Fire Dance (From El Amor Brujo): Concert Band Conductor Score & Parts
From de Falla's ballet El Amor Brujo the very familiar "Ritual Fire Dance" is scored especially for your young band from the pen of Michael Story.
