Power Your Passion with MakeMusic Publications
That phrase became my North Star as I began developing MakeMusic Publications from the ground up about a year ago. Anyone who has ever met me knows that I believe all students should be able to connect with the music they are performing, regardless of grade level. I believe that a publisher should have compelling music for the youngest beginner, and also be able to challenge the mature artist, whether technically, emotionally, or both.
I believe composers are among the artists who are tasked with bringing beauty into a world that so desperately needs it, yet should also use their music as a vehicle to shine a light on the challenges we all face in our lives. Music can simultaneously be a window into our world and also an escape from the daily grind.
At the center of MakeMusic Publications are the incredible composers whose work I fiercely admire. Composers who think far beyond “this will sell” and instead think “this will inspire, nourish, energize and motivate.” That is how we cultivate a student’s love for music.
I will never forget a concert I conducted several months ago. A student came up to me afterward and tried to speak, but instead just burst into tears. And after a minute, he just looked at me, smiled, and said “Thank you.”
This is my North Star, and will always guide MakeMusic Publications, the newest division of the Alfred family. Welcome.
